Advanced Well Plugging and Abandonment

Event Date 22 – 23 OCTOBER, Location – Amsterdam, The Netherland

Masterclass Overview

This 2-day seminar will cover in depth the topic of well plugging and abandonment, an essential step of the decommissioning phase when well integrity must be assessed, repaired – if needed – and assured for a long time into the future.
The session is focused on professionals involved in decommissioning, well integrity, production engineering and project management, who are encouraged to bring some of their challenges along to apply together the techniques and methods discussed during the classes. The tools, methods and concepts discussed during the seminar are not specific to oil and gas, but apply to all industries that need to decommission wellbores: underground storage (natural gas, hydrocarbons, or even hydrogen and CO2), geothermal power, mining and nuclear waste disposal.
At the end of the seminar participants will be able to: classify ageing processes that determine the current and future conditions of well barriers, critically apply key international standards, analyze the integrity risk of particular wells and field, diagnose key problems that drive the cost and complexity of abandonment, design an effective and efficient abandonment strategy, and assess the benefits of different technologies and techniques.
Key topics in the discussion will be how early to plan for decommissioning, how regulators and stakeholders set the rules of the game, and why geology is the main actor in abandonment..
The session delivers highly technical content in an interactive, participative, hands-on way, supported by real life examples and case studies and provides significant opportunities to network, exchange experience with peers and start finding answers to actual challenges in a collaborative setting.
